Main projects:

1) Using the national birth cohort ("Bedre sundhed for mor og barn") we are investigating pre-natal risk factors for brain damage in the newborn. One finding has been that poor neonatal brain growth, as measured by head circumference, is an important risk factor for neotal brain hemorrhage at birth. This is the first evidence of pre-natal vulnerability.
2) Dopaminergic regulation of conscious experience has been demonstrated by positron emission tomography of dopamine receptor binding and
pharmacologic intervention. This is the first demonstration of normal regulation of conscious experience at the molecular level.
3) Unity of consciousness has been demonstrated with magneto-encephalography to occur by gamma synchrony in a paralimbic loop.
4) Effect of different genotypes of the COMT enzyme on dopaminergic neurotransmission in a student population is currently under investigation.
