PhD protocol:
The PhD project has a molecular genetic epidemiological perspective and examines gene-variants that may be associated with different specific obesity phenotypes and metabolic diseases. The purposes of examining genetic components in the exploration of obesity are to obtain knowledge of the pathogenesis by characterizing specific obesity phenotypes, and to obtain a better understanding of the interaction between environmental factors and genes. Common gene variants in UCP2, UCP3, PPARG2, CART, GRL, MKKS, SHP, GHRL, MCHR1, 5HT2A, 5HT2C and COMThave been analyzed systematically. Further, the newly discovered genes, FTO and common variants of MC4R have been analyzed as well.
